American media outlets have circulated the name of Ryan Wesley Roth, who was interviewed by Agence France-Presse in Kyiv in 2022 after traveling there to support the Ukrainian people, as the gunman who opened fire near former President Donald Trump's golf course. According to the media, Roth, 58, was apprehended after U.S. Secret Service agents fired at him while he was armed with an AK-47 rifle near Trump's golf course in Florida, where the former president was playing golf on Sunday. The suspect fled in a black car, but authorities were able to track it down after a witness successfully identified the vehicle. CNN and CBS reported that Roth was self-employed in building affordable housing in Hawaii, had a long criminal record, and regularly published articles on politics and current events, occasionally criticizing Trump, the Republican presidential candidate. Roth had expressed strong support for Ukraine following the Russian invasion. In a post on X in March 2022, according to The New York Times, he stated, I’m ready to travel to Krakow, head to the Ukrainian border, volunteer, fight, and die. Agence France-Presse also interviewed Roth in Kyiv in late April 2022, where he was participating in a protest supporting Ukrainians trapped in the city of Mariupol. At the time, Roth told AFP, Putin is a terrorist and must be stopped, so we want everyone around the world to stop what they’re doing and come here right now. Trump was playing golf in West Palm Beach, Florida, near his Mar-a-Lago estate, when the gunman was spotted at a distance. This marks the second time in two months that Trump has faced a threat from an armed individual. The former president had previously been grazed on the ear during a speech at an outdoor campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13
